New to writing abstracts? Find out how our mentoring scheme could help.

About the mentoring scheme

Text

Our national conference attracts submissions from authors who are experienced in writing abstracts, through to those who are newer to the process for our Call for Papers. The mentoring scheme offers support to those who are less experienced in writing for publication.

We have brought together a panel of volunteer mentors to share their knowledge and experience in writing abstracts. This will help new authors develop skills in writing abstracts. It will also increase the chance of their work being accepted for presentation.

Evaluations of this scheme show that all authors who have taken part have benefitted.

How does it work?

Text

A mentor provides one-time feedback on the writing and format of an abstract.

They can answer questions about the formal requirements of abstract writing. They can also provide guidance on points relating to clarity of writing, data presentation etc. Mentors will not advise on:

  • research methods
  • analysis
  • grammar
  • spelling

The mentoring scheme is anonymous. It is entirely independent of the formal abstract review and selection process.
