Benefits of submitting your work

Text

Submitting an abstract is a great way to share and disseminate your work and ideas. It has benefits for both the individual and the organisation you work for. It enables a public discussion of your work as well as opportunities to talk with others to learn from and share ideas and experiences.

There is opportunity to further disseminate your work because accepted abstracts will appear in a conference supplement published by BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care, and may also appear on Hospice UK’s website and / or an app available only to the conference’s delegates. Please note that in submitting an abstract you and any other authors of the abstract agree to Hospice UK’s terms and conditions, and also to the terms and conditions of BMJ’s standard licence to publish for abstracts, as publisher of the selected abstracts within an online conference supplement of BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care. You must accept Hospice UK’s terms and conditions, and the BMJ’s standard licence. As regards the BMJ licence, if copyright is held by your employer or any third party, you must first (before submitting) obtain their express written authority allowing you to agree the BMJ’s standard licence.

Key information

Work submitted must be original; we cannot consider abstracts about work that has been presented or published in any form elsewhere.
In submitting an abstract you and any other authors of the abstract agree to Hospice UK’s terms and conditions, and also to the terms and conditions of BMJ’s standard licence to publish for abstracts.
By submitting an abstract to be reviewed, the author(s) are indicating that at least one of the authors will attend the conference to present the work in either oral or poster format, and will pay the delegate registration fee by the required date.
Closing date for call for papers: 15 May 2023 (at midday). There will be no extension to this date.

Presentation options

Text

Abstracts are presented as short talks (‘oral presentations') or displayed as posters.

Oral presentations are for a maximum of 15 minutes (10 minutes presentation, plus 5 minutes for questions). For PowerPoint presentations this will usually be a maximum of 15 slides. Oral presentations are grouped into themed sessions.

Posters are displayed in the exhibition hall throughout the three days of the conference. The main author (or one of the authors if an abstract has been submitted by several people), is expected to be available by their poster/s at scheduled times during breaks to discuss their work. Posters are grouped into themed collections by the call for papers team. Authors must make their own arrangements for putting up and taking down their poster at the conference venue.

Hospice UK will continue to monitor the situation as regards COVID-19 and may, at its sole discretion, opt to hold the conference online instead of at a physical venue, irrespective of whether any legal restrictions have been re-introduced. If the conference does move online then the poster exhibition will also go ahead online.

All posters presented at conference are automatically entered into the poster competition. We will award a prize, courtesy of BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care (an official journal of Hospice UK), to the lead author of one of the posters.  The poster prize will be judged by a Hospice UK panel who will consider content, design and, innovation.

How to submit your abstract

Text

Abstracts are submitted online using the Compleat Conference Company's portal. Make sure that you have the latest version of one of the following web browsers: Chrome, Firefox or Safari. We do not recommend using Internet Explorer (Edge for Windows 10) as this platform is being phased out globally and it is very likely you will experience difficulties submitting your abstract.

Once you have submitted your abstract, you will not be able to edit the content

Please note that in submitting an abstract you and any other authors of the abstract agree to Hospice UK’s terms and conditions, and also to the terms and conditions of BMJ’s standard licence to publish for abstracts, as publisher of the selected abstracts within an online conference supplement of BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care.
