On 13 December 2021, NHS England and NHS Improvement announced a number of measures to prepare the NHS for the potential impact of the Omicron variant and other winter pressures. This included strategies to maximise capacity across acute and community settings.
This funding arrangement is part of the response outlined above and seeks to secure and increase utilised capacity from hospices and eligible palliative and end of life care providers to support the national NHS response. Capacity purchased by the funding is in the form of hospice inpatient beds, hospice at home provision and community contacts.
As part of the programme, there is also additional grant funding available upon application to enable access to a single point of contact for palliative care and 24/7 specialist palliative care advice and support. Hospices or NHS organisations who wish to apply for this funding should complete this application form and submit it to grants@hospiceuk.org by Friday 25th February 2022.
Please note, if awarded a grant, the funding is for spending by the end of March 2022, so applications submitted in February will only allow for two months’ funding.
Discharge Information
Hospices participating in the programme are also required to provide an analysis of the referral source of all their patients, and of whether the hospice care has prevented a hospital admission. Please refer to the attached Q&A for guidance on how to complete this form.
