Job description

Cornwall Hospice Care require a Director of Clinical Services, to operate as a member of the Executive Management Team (EMT), contributing to both the strategic direction and the day to day operational management of the hospice and to provide dynamic, innovative and visible leadership.

 

About the role

The Director of Clinical Services, reports to the Chief Executive and is the CQC Registered Manager with a key role in enabling and monitoring compliance across regulated activities and sharing legal responsibilities in the hospice. You will be responsible for the leadership, management and ongoing development of the Clinical Services team, whilst representing the hospice and championing high quality care at the end of life and collaborative working across the wider system.

Additionally, you will attend Board of Trustee meetings and work alongside your colleagues in the EMT in achieving the hospice’s purpose to be a well led organisation delivering compassionate, specialist end of life care through an engaged and motivated workforce. 

The Director of Clinical Services will be responsible for enabling multidisciplinary teamwork, liaising with colleagues and teams across the hospice and for the continued development of high quality care. You will provide strong, visible and supportive leadership to your direct reports enabling them to effectively lead their teams and continually review and develop services to improve care for our patients and their families. 

Working as part of the EMT, the Director of Clinical Services will have an integral role in the strategic leadership of Cornwall Hospice Care. You will be expected to participate in innovation and development including contributing to shaping the vision and strategy of the hospice, incorporating clinical governance and clinical risk management. 

You will be expected to build positive relationships with other providers, commissioners and regulators of palliative, end of life, health and social care.

 

About you

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Experience of implementing CQC regulations and frameworks as Registered Manager or Nominated Individual.
  • Experience of working as a senior manager in a care delivery organisation in a strategic capacity. 
  • Substantial experience of the development and implementation of strategic plans in a health or social care setting.
  • Proven and demonstrable leadership skills including coaching and mentoring experience. 
  • Experience of working with and being accountable to a Board of Trustees. 
  • Experience, understanding and application of the principles of clinical governance to drive continuous service improvement. E Ability to undertake risk assessments in a clinical or care setting.
  • Experience of clinical, care or service-related audit. E Experience of using information derived from a variety of sources including; National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance, recognised and validated palliative outcomes, clinical audits and incidents and patient and carer experience to drive improvement in clinical quality.
